| Lernorganisation | This seminar approaches the complex link between law and literature in a comparative focus. After a general introduction to the state of art, including the background and development of the topic in the US, the seminar specialises in "satirical legal studies": literary texts where the legal system, legal academia, universities, judges, lawyers, professors and law students etc are made fun of ("law in literature"), or where legal texts contain quotations, references or other links to literary texts ("law as literature"). International (Erasmus and others) students are particularly welcome. For seminar papers and presentations, national and international students will be invited to present satirical texts they know from their national literature. Alternatively, students may choose from a pool of legal-satirical texts made available by me. The objective of the seminar is to contribute to a more reflected perception of the legal system, which just as any other societal system is not carved in stone with uncontestable dignity and integrity, but open to satirical and humoristic criticism. All kinds of seminar certificates (including the Fremdsprachenschein) may be earned, with 6 ECTS being the normal amount of credit points allocated (more ECTS are possible with additional performances). |
