Teilnehmende The seminar is open for bachelor and master students studying computer science or mathematics. This seminar is INDEPENDENT of my course on Algorithms and Uncertainty.
Voraussetzungen Prerequisite of the course is working knowledge in probability theory as well as discrete algorithms. Depending on the level of the participants, we might teach one or two introductory classes on concentration bounds in probability theory. No preliminary knowledge on bandit algorithms is required.

Sonstiges The assigned topics at bachelor level will be based on the book Bandit Algorithms by Lattimore and Szepesvári. Master students are expected to either choose an advanced chapter in the before mentioned book or a recent research paper (presented at, e.g., the last FOCS / STOC / SODA) investigating bandit algorithms.

Kommentar/Beschreibung

In this seminar, we learn the basics of bandit problems and algorithms, a framework for sequential decision tasks with exploration-exploitation tradeoff. We will see variations, extensions, and theoretical guarantees for the k-armed bandit problems and its applications in, e.g., reinforcement learning.
