General Studies Seminar: Intercultural Exchange (digital) - A glance into Cape Town's coloured community
Mondays 18:15 – 19:45 in ZOOM
Start 7 April 2025
Are you interested in international and intercultural exchange? Do you want to learn about South Africa “behind the beauty”?
We travel digitally to Cape Town to a township called Mitchell’s plain, an underdeveloped racially segregated urban area, and make a very close experience of living conditions there.
We meet with Venessa Lewis who is from Mitchell’s plain. She is a member of the so-called “coloured” community.
Here, we have a look at South-African cultures and ethnic groups, racism, Apartheid, life und survival, safety and insecurity, violence and crime, role of women, health and health system, nutrition and costs of living, energy supply and load shedding, education, unemployment and chances, policies and corruption.
Venessa has experienced Apartheid, the South-African revolution and the raise of the rainbow nation idea. She reports and comments from her own perspective and with own experiences on today’s South Africa and takes us into areas where we would otherwise not have any access.
This course aims at an exchange where participants leave their comfort zones, risk to be distressed, change perspectives and learn with and from each other.
