Dieses Seminar ist Teil einer interdisziplinären studentischen Forschungsgruppe, die zum ersten Mal im Sommersemester 2025 ihre Arbeit angefangen hat. Ausgangspunkt dieses Seminars war und ist die Wut, Frustration und vielleicht Hilflosigkeit, die wir angesichts des Anstiegs der (extremen) Rechten in Deutschland und anderswo empfinden. Die Gruppe möchte diese Wut aufgreifen und in Forschung umwandeln, um uns zu helfen, zu verstehen, was wir – (gerade) als Kultur- und Sozialwissenschaftler:innen u.a. – dagegen tun können.
In Zusammenarbeit mit Aktivist:innen, z.B. wie das Medienprojekt Recherche Nord, will die Gruppe ein akademisches Auge auf rechtsextreme und autoritäre Entwicklungen halten, sie dokumentieren, verstehen, analysieren und entsprechend praktische Gegenstrategien entwickeln. Die Gruppe versteht sich daher als Watch-Group der aktuellen Verhältnisse.
Das Gruppe baut auf der Arbeit aus dem Sommersemester auf, in dem sie Forschungsethik und -prinzipien und Webseite/Output-Formate übernimmt, aber neue Forschungsthemen und -fragen entwickelt. So ist sie Teil der Entwicklung einer längerfristigen studentische Forschungsgruppe. Selbstverständlich ist eine einmalige Teilnahme völlig in Ordnung.
Die Gruppe entscheidet gemeinsam, was sie untersuchen möchte und wie, und kümmert sich um ein sorgsames Miteinander. Regelmäßige Treffen finden Dienstags, 12-16:00 statt plus zusätzliche Blocktermine im Januar (tbd). Genaueres wird in der ersten Sitzung bekannt gegeben. Als Sprache werden wir je nach Bedarf ein Gemisch aus Englisch und Deutsch verwenden. Manche Termine mit Aktivist:innen müssen u.U. auf Deutsch stattfinden (um eine Übersetzung müssen wir uns gemeinsam kümmern).

This seminar is part of an interdisciplinary student research group, which started its work in the summer semester 2025. It was/is triggered by the anger, frustration and perhaps helplessness we might be feeling in light of the rise of the (far)right in Germany and elsewhere. It wants to take this anger and transform it into research to help us understand what we can do about it. Hence, the seminar aims at developing practical counter-strategies on the basis of our research as anthropologists or social scientists.
Together with activists such as Recherche Nord, the group aims at keeping an “academic” eye on the far-right and authoritarian developments that we are currently witnessing, documenting, understanding, and analysing them in order to suggest counter-strategies. In this sense, the group sees itself as a Watch-Group of the current situation.
The group draws on the work of the previous semester by using their research ethics and principles as well as the website and output-formats, but will develop its own research themes and questions. This way it is part of developing a long-term student research group. But, if you are only interested in joining for one semester that is totally fine.
The group will together decide what it wants to investigate and where, and will ensure a caring group atmosphere. Regular meetings will take place on Tuesdays, 12-16:00, plus extra appointments en bloc in January (tbd). More information will be given in the first session. Language will be a mix of German and English depending of the needs of the participants. Some sessions however with activists might have to take place in German (we will figure out translation together).
