Kommentar/Beschreibung

In 2025, international tourism arrivals reached a staggering 1,5 billion. As one of the world’s biggest industries, it provides income for one out ten people in the world. This means that few places in the world are untouched by tourism. In this class we explore tourism from a range of perspective: What motivates people to travel? What are the economic and structural conditions underpinning the industry? How does tourism unfold on the ground? Through anthropological perspectives, we explore
• how tourism relies and reproduces existing inequalities and stereotypical imaginaries of places and people.
• how marketing and branding is integral to the tourism product, and how such tourism gazes and imaginaries materialize on the ground through flows of capital, made-up landscapes, gated communities and front stages.
• the drivers and moods of volunteer tourism, dark tourism (e.g. visiting sites of atrocities), romantic tourism and root tourism.
• How notions of the other, the exotic and the erotic shape encounters between locals and travellers and tourist experiences.

Diese Veranstaltung gehört zum Anmeldeset "Beschränkte Teilnehmendenanzahl: BA M4".
Folgende Regeln gelten für die Anmeldung:
  • Es wird eine festgelegte Anzahl von Plätzen in den Veranstaltungen verteilt.
    Die Plätze werden in der Reihenfolge der Anmeldung vergeben.
  • Die Anmeldung zu maximal 2 Veranstaltungen des Anmeldesets ist erlaubt.
