Kommentar/Beschreibung

This class will provide an overview of the theoretical postcolonial turn in the humanities and social sciences. Students will engage with foundational texts that will inform their specialization modules and master’s theses. These readings cover theories addressing European colonialism, orientalism, essentialism, subalternity, Necropolitics, transculturalism, and decolonial perspectives.

By the end of the course, students are expected to have gained a deep understanding of the postcolonial forces shaping both global, local, and regional specific cultures and literatures. Requirements for this course are class participation and reading/engagement with the texts that are assigned. The course will have both a midterm and final exam.
